Daabon se retira del proyecto Las Pavas

Santa Marta (Colombia), Octubre 28, 2010 – C.I. Tequendama S.A., subsidiaria del Grupo Daabon, ha tomado la decisión de dar por terminado su proyecto de cultivo de palma en la región de Las Pavas. La decisión fue comunicada en el día de ayer al Consorcio Aportes San Isidro por el gerente de C.I. Tequendama.

Manuel Dávila, Presidente Ejecutivo del Grupo Daabon, dijo al respecto que “desde los inicios expresamos nuestro compromiso hacia la gente y la comunidad de Las Pavas con el objetivo de traer progreso al área. Asumimos que nuestro modelo de Alianzas Productivas por la Paz, exitoso en otras regiones por la prosperidad, el desarrollo y bienestar que ha traído para las comunidades, también seria apropiado, valido y potencialmente exitoso en esta región. Sin embargo existe un debate alrededor de la tenencia, posesión y propiedad de la tierra que, no obstante las decisiones judiciales en favor del Consorcio, han generado un entorno en la zona de las Pavas en el que es imposible avanzar con proyectos productivos. Quizá el trabajo gubernamental alrededor de la Ley de Tierras traiga claridad a una región que necesita en todo caso la presencia de inversión privada, trabajo digno y formal y capacidad económica empresarial. Nuestra compañía se ha visto gravemente afectada por la dificultad del Consorcio en llegar a acuerdos sostenibles con las comunidades, lo que nos ha llevado a retirarnos del mismo“.

Daabon lamenta que la ausencia de claridad por parte del INCODER y las motivaciones políticas que han rodeado este debate, haya impedido que el modelo de alianzas que impulsa la empresa en otros lugares del país y que tanto desarrollo y bienestar ha traído consigo, no pueda ser puesto en marcha en Las Pavas. El daño reputacional que enfrenta Daabon pone en peligro la subsistencia de casi 3000 campesinos y sus familias, quienes hacen parte de la organización de Alianzas en el Norte colombiano del Grupo.

En trabajo conjunto con los integrantes del Consorcio Aportes San Isidro, el Grupo Daabon definirá los pasos a seguir para llevar a cabo su retiro de Las Pavas. Sin embargo, dado que la producción de aceite de palma, siguiendo los mejores estándares internacionales es el objetivo primordial del Grupo, éste adelanta estudios para identificar oportunidades en otras regiones del país donde nuestro modelo de Alianzas sea bienvenido.

 

Daabon exits the Las Pavas Project

Santa Marta, Colombia, Oct 28, 2010 – C.I. Tequendama S.A., a subsidiary of the Daabon Group, has made the decision to end its involvement in the project for growing palm in the Las Pavas region. The Consortium Aportes San Isidro was informed of this decision yesterday by the manager of C.I. Tequendama.

Manuel Davila, CEO of the Daabon Group, said “From the beginning we have expressed our commitment to the people and the community of Las Pavas with the goal of bringing progress to this area of the country. We assumed that our model Productive Alliances for Peace, which has been successful in other parts of the country because of the prosperity, development, and other benefits it has brought to communities, would also be appropriate, valid , and succesful in this region. However the debate that exists regarding ownership and posession of the land, in spite of the court rulings in favor of the Consortium, has made it impossible to advance with a productive project. Perhaps the involvement of the federal government, in accordance with the Lands Law, will bring greater clarity to a region which in any case requires the presence of private capital investment, formal and dignified employment, and corporate economic support. Our company has been seriously affected because of the difficulty the Consortium has had in reaching a sustainable agreement with the community, and for this reason has decided to retire from the project.”

Daabon laments both the absence of clarity on the part of the Incoder (federal government dependency ) and the political motives that have characterized the debate. These factors have prevented that the model of Productive Alliances for Peace, promoted by the company in other areas of the country with successful results of development and economic prosperity, be put into practice in Las Pavas. Daabon is concerned that the potential damage to its reputation could endanger the economic well being of nearly 3,000 small farmers and their families who are part of the company’s program of Productive Alliances for Peace in northern Colombia.

In conjunction with the Consortium Aportes San Isidro, the Daabon Group will establish the steps to be followed to formalize its exit from the Las Pavas Project. Nevertheless, given the fact that Daabon’s primary objective is the development of the production of palm oil, in accordance with the best international standards, the company will continue to analyze opportunities in other regions of the country where our Alliance model is welcome.

 

Daabon beendet Las Pavas-Engagement

Santa Marta (Kolumbien)/Pulheim, 28.10.2010 – Die Daabon Gruppe mit ihrem Tochterunternehmen C.I. Tequendama S.A. beendet mit sofortiger Wirkung das Ölpalmanbau-Engagement in der Region Las Pavas/Kolumbien. Eine entsprechende Mitteilung hat der Daabon-Vorstand an den Geschäftspartner des Konsortiums El Labrador gerichtet. Manuel Dávila, Vorsitzender des Vorstandes, begründet die Entscheidung: „Wir haben uns in dieser seit Jahrzehnten krisengeschüttelten Region engagiert, um durch Ölpalmanbau auf der Finca Las Pavas allen Beteiligten einen Nutzen und eine Perspektive zu ermöglichen, so wie wir es mit unserem Allianzas- (Kooperativen-)Modell in anderen Teilen des Landes erfolgreich praktizieren. Obwohl die Landeigentumsfrage zu Las Pavas von rechtlicher Seite eindeutig zugunsten des Konsortiums geklärt ist, halten die Diskussionen über Besitz und Eigentum unvermindert an. In so einem Klima ist es für uns nicht möglich, zukunftsgerichtete Projekte umzusetzen. Das nach wie vor schwebende und nicht umgesetzte Landreformverfahren wird vielleicht in Zukunft Klarheit bringen, doch jetzt bedürfte diese von Armut geprägte Region privatwirtschaftliches Engagement und Investitionen, aus denen würdevolle Arbeitsbedingungen mit langfristiger Perspektive entstehen können. Durch die Schwierigkeiten des Konsortiums mit den dörflichen Gemeinschaften zu einer gemeinsamen und langfristig wirksamen Lösung zu kommen, wurde unserem Unternehmen erheblicher Schaden zugefügt. Vor diesem Hintergrund beenden wir unser Engagement in Las Pavas.“

Daabon bedauert es, dass durch fehlende Klarheit seitens INCODER (Behörde für landwirtschaftliche Entwicklung) aber auch durch eigennützige Motive seitens verschiedenster Interessengruppen den Bauern und ihren Familien eine zum Greifen nahe wirtschaftliche und soziale Perspektive genommen wird. Auch will Daabon durch die immer wieder neu geschürten Diskussionen und eine fortwährende Rufschädigung nicht weiter die wirtschaftliche Grundlage der mit Daabon über Allianzas verbundenen rund 3000 Bauern mit ihren Familien im Norden des Landes gefährden.

Mit dem Konsortialpartner Aportes San Isidro wird Daabon jetzt Schritte festlegen, um das formal beschlossene Ende auch vor Ort zeitnah zu ermöglichen. Der sozial und ökologisch verträgliche Ölpalmanbau bleibt weiterhin eine zentrale Aufgabe der Daabon Gruppe. Neue Engagements in anderen Regionen des Landes, in denen von vornherein die Umsetzung der Daabon-Standards willkommen und möglich ist, werden derzeit identifiziert.
